I recently posted a quote on my Facebook page that went something like this: "Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." - *Elizabeth Stone
When I read those words I couldn't help but relate to my own experience with having a baby. The plethora of feelings that a person experiences once they've introduced this new life to the world is an indescribable journey. That's probably why those words hit me right in the feels, because it's just so plainly and accurately stated. Your relationship with your baby is one of the most unique bonds that can be found on this planet. Unlike other relationships that could potentially fade over time or end completely, you child will always be your child. You cannot change their genetic make-up. They are, in the truest sense, a part of you. And no matter what, that can never change.
I had the pleasure of photographing a dear friend of mine throughout her pregnancy journey and with her beautiful new little boy. I had an inkling, after visiting her at her home for the first time after the baby was born, that he would likely not want to be posed like my traditional newborn sessions. He was so alert for a newborn and very energetic as well. So I devised a plan before hand to transition him by starting off the session less posed and more of a "lifestyle" feel. He never did end up transitioning to the posed photos but that is totally fine by me (and mom & dad I hope!), because I feel like what we did capture was real connections between baby Emerson and his parents.
To my dear friends, enjoy every step of this beautiful new journey
